RESEARCH UPDATE
Musango adds a new Late Triassic dinosaur to Zimbabwe
A museum-led study describes Musango matusadonaensis from the Lake Kariba region and places it among early sauropodomorph dinosaurs.
Why does the discovery matter?
Southern African fossils help test how early sauropodomorphs diversified before the rise of the giant long-necked forms familiar from the Jurassic.
What remains uncertain?
Body size and relationships can change as additional bones, comparisons and phylogenetic analyses become available. The reconstruction should therefore be read as a current scientific interpretation, not a final portrait.
